“I have known Claire for over ten years and have know her as a responsible and experienced dog trainer who acts with integrity, is professional, and has a broad understanding of canine behaviour, breeds, welfare, motivation and rewards; she is not only enthusiastic and passionate about working with dogs but also patient and thoughtful with regards to their owners.
The intention of her training methods are very clear, she uses positive training techniques and the results are very noticeable, she remains innovative and resourceful and has a natural affinity and sympathy with the dogs and owners, ensuring that each one is treated as an individual, taking into account the level of their experience, their limitations, whilst understanding the possible consequences of any advice she may give. In this role she is a competent and effective teacher. She has taught for many years both as a dog trainer and a horse riding instructor and organiser and trainer of self-development courses at York University in their Staff Development Office. She holds the ‘Train the Trainer’ and British Horse Society qualifications to this end.
Claire is also very gregarious as well as empathetic, and as such her personality lends itself to making people feel very comfortable in situations where they can be very nervous, for example on first night of training; her calm, collected approach puts both the dogs and their owners at ease.
Claire realises the importance of continuous personal development, even though she was brought up in a training environment with many years of experience with dogs, training and behaviour (her mother bred and trained working Labradors) she realises there is always more to learn. As a Puppy School Tutor with Gwen Bailey she has had to undertake a comprehensive training course, and Claire is now in her final year of a FdSc in Canine Behaviour and Training.
Claire has been running puppy classes, junior and intermediate training classes for over ten years at her own Homeboarding, Training and Grooming business Cutters Canines. She follows the guidelines of the Good Citizen Dog Scheme in all her classes and has successfully obtained both Bronze and Silver with her own dog. As she now runs her facility full-time she would like to offer her own classes the opportunity to enter into the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme up to intermediate level. Her home is set in 12 acres of fenced-off fields with a small classroom with fire and first aid facilities and disabled access with large car park.
She is fully insured with HIA Insurance (copies enclosed) and holds additional insurance for behavioural consultations and regularly attends both canine and human First Aid workshops to make sure she is well-versed in an emergency.
These facilities combined with Claire’s down to earth approach, experience and professionalism earmarks her as an excellent trainer who is an asset to the profession and I do hope her application is successful.
