Her lifetimeresolve has been to help all animals gain a voice. Quietly, she would lower a horse’s severe bit by a notch, swop horses around in the riding stables so they were not subject to a bullying neighbour and give the working collie a view out. Later as she had more autonomy, she spent a lifetime acquiring new knowledge and gained the scientific theory necessary to support her extensive practical experience.
She wrote Selby Council’s code of practice for home-boarding and was a trailblazer when she opened her home-boarding establishment where dogs could come and play with each other. She ran the centre for over 25 years which developed into educational projects for local schools, grooming, workshops and training and behavioural advice for both equines and canines.
Now another chapter has opened and Claire has moved to Prospect Farm, Cropton set in the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors. Here using learning theory, canine and equine science she seeks to teach others that their animals’ welfare can be improved by allowing the animals to drive the training. The animals enjoyment and inclusion in this process is paramount.
Her training and behavioural consultations for both equines and canines embodies a high amount of play, enrichment and interaction as studies show that education through play has an 80% increase in learning . Through both spiritual practices, empathy and enrichment owners are given the tools to see how their own lifestyles can be adapted so the animals in their care will flourish.
