About Cutters Canines& Equines

"Life is life's greatest gift.  Guard the life of another creature as you would your own because it is your own.  On life's scale of values, the smallest is no less precious to the creature who owns it than the largest" Lloyd Biggle Junior 1923

Here at Cutters Canines & Equines our main aim is to ensure all animals live happier lives,  gifted with freedom, play and interactions with their own kind.  In today’s highly complex world where people are having to work long hours and juggle many balls in the air their pets are seen as a welcome relief from the pressures of modern life. However, many animals are suffering greatly with this role and often have to cope with a life-style that they have not evolved to meet.  We therefore help owners to improve their pet's lives with simple adjustments and suggestions.  We show them what to look for in their animal's demeanour to indicate unhappiness, frustration or fear etc.

We deliver all our training through play, homeboarding and education to help both humans and their pets create a life that is worth living. Dogs as social creatures are spending huge amounts of time in crates or in isolation with little time to interact with their own kind. Many horses are kept isolated from the herd with negative reinforcement or punishment based training with little regard to how emotionally and physically they are suited to their allocated role. Nowadays many animals have little opportunity to learn from their peers and get minimum training to deal with traffic, novel experiences and socialisation with other animals and people. Many change hands several times in their lifetime with the attending grief and upset in missing their loved ones and having to learn new methods of communication and training protocols in an unknown environment.

With over 80% of competition horses experiencing stomach ulcers (over 50% in hackers) there are many ways we can improve their lot by firstly abandoning the current thinking  that unwanted behaviour is simply our animals misbehaving. Cutters Canines & Equines objectives are to offer solutions which address any shortfalls in training and husbandry and expand their life experiences to help them gain confidence and ability. We all need to give the animals in our care chance to have a life of fulfilment, enrichment and social engagement with their own kind if we want to see a reduction in behavioural problems leading to rehoming and euthanasia of pets.
